A fire at a Cayuga County manufacturer Saturday afternoon sent smoke visible for miles, but quick action from multiple fire departments brought it under control within about an hour.
According to scanner reports, the fire began around 3:30 p.m. at Owens Brockway Glass Container, also known as Owens-Illinois, on County House Road in Sennett. Social media posts showed the plume of smoke from as far away as the Grant Avenue area in Auburn.
The Citizen reports that by approximately 4 p.m. the fire was contained to a small area and was producing minimal smoke.
Departments from Auburn, Throop, Weedsport, Aurelius, and Sennett responded to the scene, assisted by Auburn and Jordan ambulances.
Owens Brockway was also the site of a fire in June 2022.
