Grant Funding Awarded to Combat HWA in Owasco Lake Watershed

SHARE NOW

A joint effort by five area Rotary Clubs and an environmental group has succeeded in acquiring a grant to help protect the Owasco Lake watershed.

Rotary Clubs in Auburn, Marcellus, Moravia, Skaneateles, and Tully joined forces with the Owasco Watershed Lake Association to apply for funding to combat Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA). The coalition announced that it has received $32,000 in grant funding to treat hemlock trees in the Owasco Lake watershed affected by HWA.

HWA is an invasive species without any natural predators that infests hemlock trees, causing needle discoloration, needle loss, and eventually death.
