For the second consecutive election, the race for mayor in Penn Yan has been decided by just three votes.

According to unofficial results from Tuesday’s election, Patricia Christensen received 179 votes, narrowly defeating incumbent Mayor Dan Condella, who received 176. Former Mayor Leigh MacKerchar finished with 153 votes, and Daniel Irwin received 37.

Village officials say a recount is scheduled for Friday morning at the Yates County Office Building.

The razor-thin margin mirrors the 2022 mayoral race, when Dan Condella, then a challenger, defeated incumbent Leigh MacKerchar by three votes, 259 to 256.

In the race for three open seats on the Penn Yan Village Board, Ronald Dailey led all candidates with 345 votes, followed by Teresa Hoban with 316 and Robert Craig with 291, securing the three available positions. Bill Wigsten finished just outside the top three with 277 votes.
