A house fire early Wednesday morning destroyed a home in Ovid, but all occupants and pets were able to escape safely.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 6:05 a.m. to 5931 State Route 96A for a reported structure fire. Fire departments from Ovid responded along with mutual aid from Varick, Romulus, Lodi, Interlaken, and Fayette’s FAST Team, as well as the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department and South Seneca Ambulance.
The first unit on scene confirmed a working fire.
Despite firefighters’ efforts, the home was declared a total loss. No injuries were reported.
Additional mutual aid and station coverage were provided by Border City, Canoga, and Trumansburg fire departments.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
