Keuka Baseball Falls to Wisconsin-Eau Claire in Florida

The Keuka College Baseball team dropped a 14-9 decision to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Tuesday at Northeast Regional Park.

Keuka (2-5) saw a strong offensive showing with 10 hits, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Evan Cuba (Honeoye, N.Y./Honeoye) and an RBI from Logan Meisner (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Notre Dame). Derek Novicki (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) scored three runs in the game, while Zach Elinich (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) crossed the plate twice.

Hunter Corkran (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) got the start on the mound for the Wolves and pitched four innings.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second to build a 7-0 lead. Keuka responded in the bottom of the first, as Elinich scored and Meisner drew an RBI walk. The Wolves plated three runs in the inning to cut into the deficit.

After a brief scoreless stretch, the Blugolds added two runs in the fifth. Keuka answered in the bottom half when Mike Dutch (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and Elinich scored on Cuba’s two-RBI double, pulling the Wolves closer.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire extended its lead with a run in the sixth before breaking the game open with a five-run eighth inning. Keuka continued to fight, adding a run in the sixth and two more in the ninth, but could not complete the comeback.

The Wolves scored in four different innings and finished with season highs in runs (9), hits (10), and RBIs (8), but Wisconsin-Eau Claire held on for the win.
