A community garden in Auburn is poised to expand.
Westside Community Garden was granted permission by the city to establish a small community garden in Miles/Lepak Park in 2024. In 2025, the city granted the garden permission to expand.
Organizer Anna Ritter gave a presentation at last Thursday’s City Council meeting, where she said the garden is now requesting permission to double its current size, expanding to 4,000 ft sq. The additional space would be used for Hugelkultur beds, fruit trees, signage, and a small farm stand where produce grown at the garden could be given away.
Additionally, organizers are working to create workshops for youth. The youth farm project would feature weekly workshops on sustainable agriculture and focus on donating food to local organizations.
Funding for the expansion would be funded by grants rather than taxpayer money, Ritter said.
Council is set to vote on a resolution approving the use of the expanded land at Thursday’s City Council meeting.
