    A cold front has pushed through the region and temperatures have quickly dropped below freezing and will continue to drop into the low 20s and teens overnight. Bath Resident Charged with Misuse of Benefits

Bath Resident Charged with Misuse of Benefits

On Wednesday, investigators with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Shane Fox, 46, of Bath.

The arrest follows an investigation into an incident that allegedly occurred between August 23 and August 24, 2025. It is alleged that Fox used another individual’s Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card to purchase items without the owner’s permission.

Fox is charged with Petit Larceny and Misuse of Food Stamps. Following his arrest, he was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to answer the charges in the Village of Bath Court at a later date.

Sheriff Jim Allard thanked the Steuben County Department of Social Services Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit and the Steuben County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
