On Monday, March 16, Penn Yan Police arrested a local woman on felony charges following a traffic stop in the Village.
Angela Bruno, 27, was stopped by officers for allegedly speeding and using an insufficient turn signal. During the investigation, police observed several indicators of intoxication, including slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes. Officers say Bruno failed standardized field sobriety tests at the scene.
Bruno was taken into custody and transported to the Yates County Jail, where she voluntarily submitted to a chemical breath test. The test revealed a blood alcohol content of .15%.
The charges were elevated to felonies after police discovered Bruno had a prior conviction for Driving While Ability Impaired by drugs within the past 10 years. Bruno was charged with felony Driving While Intoxicated (Common Law) and felony Driving While Intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .08% or greater.
Bruno was processed and released. She is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date to answer the charges.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
