State Trooper Hurt After SUV Rear-Ends Patrol Car During Stop

A New York State Trooper was injured early Sunday morning after a crash on the New York State Thruway in Westchester County.

According to New York State Police, the incident happened shortly after 5 a.m. on March 15 along the right shoulder of the Thruway in the Town of Mamaroneck.

Troopers were conducting a traffic stop involving a 2025 Mercedes sedan driven by Siiyer W. Walker, 52, of Connecticut. While the troopers were standing near the vehicle, a 2007 Chevy Suburban, driven by Kevin Ariel Cunache Moyolema, 24, also of Connecticut, struck the rear of the patrol car.

Police say the impact pushed the patrol vehicle into the Mercedes, which then struck one of the troopers.

The injured trooper was taken to Westchester Medical Center with minor injuries and was later released. The second trooper at the scene was not struck.

Moyolema was also transported to Westchester Medical Center for evaluation of minor body pain. Walker was checked by emergency medical personnel at the scene but declined transportation to the hospital.

State Police say the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
