The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of upcoming lane reductions on State Route 14 in the Village of Horseheads as work begins on a bridge project.
Beginning Monday, Route 14 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Chemung Street and Philo Road in Chemung County. The lane restrictions are expected to remain in place through mid-December 2026 while construction is underway.
Transportation officials say drivers should expect possible travel delays in the area and are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible.
Officials also note that construction activities are weather dependent and could change depending on conditions.
Motorists traveling through the work zone are urged to slow down and drive cautiously. Fines are doubled for speeding in work zones, and drivers convicted of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could face a suspension of their driver’s license.
