Two Clyde Residents Arrested Following Baseball Bat Assault Investigation

SHARE NOW

On Thursday, deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Clyde residents following an investigation into an assault involving a baseball bat.

Aaren Layton, 24, and Genoa Jackson, 23, were both charged with Assault in the Second Degree. Additionally, Layton was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, while Jackson was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree.

The charges stem from a physical altercation in November 2025. It is alleged that during the incident, Layton and Jackson used a baseball bat to strike another person, causing physical injuries. Police responded to the scene following the assault, and the victim was transported to Newark Wayne Community Hospital for medical treatment.

Both Layton and Jackson were transported to the Wayne County Jail to await centralized arraignment.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
