On Friday, the Penn Yan Police Department arrested a local man following a months-long investigation into inappropriate contact with three underage females.
Bryan Mayhew, 18, was taken into custody and charged with Rape in the Second Degree, Rape in the Third Degree, Forcible Touching, and three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. The investigation revealed that Mayhew allegedly communicated with multiple underage females to exchange inappropriate photos.
Authorities allege that during the 2024-2025 school year, Mayhew inappropriately touched a 14-year-old girl on school grounds. Further allegations include an incident in June 2025 where Mayhew had sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old female, and an incident in December 2025 involving sexual contact with a 14-year-old female. While the school-based incident was not reported at the time, it was uncovered during interviews with other victims. Mayhew, who is no longer a student, has been banned from all school district property.
Mayhew was processed at the police department and transported to the Yates County Jail for arraignment. He was subsequently released, and orders of protection have been issued for all known victims. The investigation remains ongoing with additional charges pending.
Police believe there may be unidentified victims and encourage anyone with information to contact the Penn Yan Police Department at 315-536-4426.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
