The New York State Police has named a new commander for Troop D.
Superintendent Steven G. James has appointed 52-year-old Marc Barbera of Oneonta as the 35th Troop Commander for Troop D. His appointment took effect February 26.
Barbera joined the State Police in April 2000 after entering the State Police Academy. He was promoted to sergeant in 2008 and assigned to SP Somers in Troop K. In 2010, he became Station Commander and spent the next five years serving at SP Oneonta.
He was promoted to lieutenant in 2015 and assigned to SP Marcy. In 2020, Barbera advanced to the rank of captain and served in several roles, including assignments at SP Marcy in Troop D, Administrative Captain at Troop C Headquarters, and postings in Binghamton and Oneonta.
Barbera replaces Kevin M. Reilly, who was recently promoted to Staff Inspector and reassigned to Division Headquarters Field Command.
Troop D covers seven Central New York counties, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego, with troopers operating from 27 facilities and serving 167 towns, 89 villages, and five cities.
Barbera is a resident of Delaware County and a 1996 graduate of Cazenovia College.
