A tractor-trailer driver was killed early Thursday morning in a crash on the New York State Thruway in Oneida County.
According to New York State Police, troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash around 1:25 a.m. on the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 near mile marker 243.7 in the town of Westmoreland, New York.
A preliminary investigation found that a tractor-trailer driven by 42-year-old Ahmad Riyad Alomori of New Jersey was traveling westbound in the right lane while hauling an empty car carrier for A1 Truck Lines. Investigators say a second tractor-trailer, operated by a driver working for DNT Express, struck the rear of the car hauler.
Both vehicles were pushed onto the right shoulder following the collision.
The driver of the DNT Express truck suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the driver’s identity is being withheld until family members are notified.
Alomori was taken to Wynn Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries for evaluation.
State Police say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
