On Tuesday, deputies with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Lawrence Werts, 57, and Billie Tassone-Werts, 52, both of Auburn, following an investigation into a series of thefts.
Both individuals were charged with two counts of Conspiracy in the Sixth Degree and two counts of Petit Larceny. The arrests stem from an investigation that began on February 23, when deputies were dispatched to a business in the Town of Springport for a larceny complaint. Investigators determined that the pair allegedly engaged in conduct constituting the thefts on February 17 and February 19.
On March 3, Lawrence Werts and Billie Tassone-Werts turned themselves in at the Public Safety Building. They were processed and issued appearance tickets. Both are scheduled to answer the charges in the Town of Springport Court on March 11 at 4:00 PM.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
