The Keuka College Baseball team opened the 2026 season with a 10-1 loss to #17-ranked SUNY Cortland at Falcon Park in Auburn.
Five Wolves recorded hits for Keuka College, now 0-1 on the season. Zach Elinich of Syracuse and Dan Mrowinski of Syracuse each picked up their first hits in a Keuka uniform. Ryan Schur Jr. of Williamsport, Pennsylvania and Liam Eshelman of Victor each threw scoreless innings in their first appearance for the Green and Gold.
Keuka broke through in the sixth inning as Dan Mrowinski singled, and pressure on the bases forced an error that allowed Alex Evans of Liverpool to score. The Wolves created traffic on the bases throughout the game, drawing walks and putting runners in scoring position, but struggled to come up with the key hit.
On the mound, Keuka showed resilience in key spots, including a strikeout by Eshelman in the eighth that stranded a pair of runners and briefly stalled Cortland’s offense. The pitching staff worked around traffic at times to keep the game within reach despite consistent pressure from the Red Dragons.
Cortland gradually pulled away with runs in several middle innings before a four-run sixth inning created separation and put the game out of reach.
Notes:
The loss drops the Wolves to 0-3 all-time against the Red Dragons. It was the first meeting between the two schools since 2010. Keuka also falls to 0-9 against nationally-ranked programs.
Logan Meisner of Elmira, Ian Ruhmel of Horseheads, and Owen Garvey of Meadville, Pennsylvania also had hits for the Wolves. Nate Hill of Webster and Alex Evans did a good job at the top of the lineup getting on base. Evans drew two walks, while Hill had a walk and was hit by a pitch.
Up next, the Wolves return to the field Sunday to host St. Lawrence University in a doubleheader at Finger Lakes Community College in Canandaigua. It will be the first-ever meeting between the Wolves and Saints in baseball.
