Two seniors from the Keuka College men’s basketball team have earned All-Conference honors from the Empire 8 Conference, the league’s coaches announced Thursday.
Lamar Lovelace (Rochester, N.Y. / Northeast College Prep) was named First Team All-Empire 8, while Akinlana Popoola (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) earned Third Team honors.
Lovelace turned in a record-setting season for the Wolves. He broke Keuka’s single-season scoring record and currently sits at 587 points. His total and scoring average of 21.7 points per game both lead the Empire 8. His season included a 41-point performance that set a new program record and earned him National Player of the Week recognition. He also ranks in the top 10 in program history in several offensive categories and was named Empire 8 Player of the Week three times. He joins Devin Milton ’23 as the only players in program history to earn First Team All-Empire 8 honors.
Popoola was named Third Team All-Empire 8 for the second straight year. He scored 323 points this season, averaging 13.5 points per game, which tied for 15th in the conference. He posted a career-high 27 points against Hartwick College and followed that with 22 points as Keuka defeated conference champion Russell Sage College during a weekend road sweep. Popoola and Milton are now the only players in program history to earn multiple All-Empire 8 selections.
Also recognized was first-year guard Connor Chapman (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy), who was named to the Empire 8 Tomorrow’s Leaders Team. The honor recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate leadership on the court, in the classroom and in the community while competing with integrity.
