Concerns Grow Over Dundee Glenora Railroad Crossing

SHARE NOW

Residents with concerns about the condition of a railroad crossing on Dundee Glenora Road are being directed to contact the railroad company rather than the town highway department.

The Town of Starkey Highway Department said it is aware of issues at the railroad crossing along County Route 44, also known as Dundee Glenora Road, but noted the roadway is owned and maintained by Yates County.

Town officials said Starkey’s role on that stretch of road is limited to snow removal under a contract with the county and that the town does not have authority over repairs or maintenance at the crossing. The crossing is controlled by Norfolk Southern, 10 feet from either side of the railroad

Complaints or concerns should be reported directly to Norfolk Southern, which is responsible for the railroad infrastructure.

Residents can contact Norfolk Southern at 1-800-946-4744 and reference crossing number 505 857K.

Highway Superintendent Fred Cratsley encouraged community members to report problems, saying a higher volume of complaints could help move the issue up the company’s priority list.
