Former Federal Transit Administration Administrator Marc Molinaro says he is returning to New York politics and plans to run for the New York State Assembly in 2026.

Molinaro, now a resident of Catskill, announced he will seek the 102nd Assembly District seat during the upcoming election cycle.

“After an incredible, record-breaking year in the Trump Administration, I’m coming home,” Molinaro said in a statement announcing his campaign.

If elected, Molinaro would succeed current Assemblymember Chris Tague, who launched a campaign in December for the New York State Senate’s 51st District.

Molinaro has held several roles in local, state, and federal government. He previously served in Congress representing New York, as Dutchess County Government Executive, and most recently as head of the Federal Transit Administration under Donald Trump. He stepped down from the federal post last week, saying he wanted to return to serve New Yorkers.

The 102nd Assembly District includes all of Greene County and Schoharie County, along with portions of Albany County, Delaware County, and Otsego County.

Other candidates who have announced plans to run for the seat include Thomas Boomhower, Mary Finneran, and Janet Tweed.
