Three vehicles were involved in an early-morning crash on Interstate 81 in Cortlandville on Wednesday, including a commercial bus carrying more than 40 passengers.

New York State Police say troopers from New York State Police responded around 3:17 a.m. to the northbound lanes of I-81 near mile marker 46.4 for a reported bus crash.

Investigators determined a Greyhound Lines bus was traveling north toward Syracuse from New York City, with a scheduled stop in Binghamton, when it was rear-ended by a 2006 Toyota driven by 27-year-old Cheikh Mohamed Lem Abedouty of Alexandria.

Police say as the bus slowed following that impact, it was struck again from behind by a 2018 Audi driven by Tyreck Lorenzo Hunte, 26, of Endicott. Troopers said Hunte initially left the scene but later contacted authorities to report the crash.

Abedouty was taken to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center for treatment and was later released. Hunte and the bus driver, Kimberly Poole, 43, of Philadelphia, were not injured. None of the 43 passengers aboard the bus reported injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.
