A pedestrian was taken to the hospital with minor injuries Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle at a busy Canandaigua intersection.
According to the Canandaigua Police Department, officers responded around 3:43 p.m. to the area of North Main Street and North Street for the report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.
Investigators say 74-year-old Sanford Germany, of Canandaigua, was crossing North Main Street in a marked crosswalk with a “WALK” signal when he was struck by a vehicle. Police determined the driver, 24-year-old Mariah McCauley, of Shortsville, was traveling eastbound on North Street and making a right turn onto southbound North Main Street at the time of the collision.
Germany was transported by ambulance to F.F. Thompson Hospital with what police described as minor injuries. McCauley was not hurt.
Police issued McCauley a traffic ticket for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Officers were assisted at the scene by the Canandaigua Emergency Squad and the Canandaigua Fire Department.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
