A jury has convicted a man in connection with the 2023 killing of Thomas Rath, a case that spanned multiple communities across Tompkins and Tioga counties.
Prosecutors said Rath disappeared from a homeless encampment in Ithaca in May 2023. Investigators determined he was later taken to a home in Newfield, where he was tortured, then shot and left dead in Candor. His remains were discovered months later, in August 2023, on nearby state land.
WENY-TV in Elmira reports that after a trial, jurors deliberated for about six hours over two days before finding John Glennon guilty. He faces 25 years to life in prison on the murder charge alone and is scheduled to be sentenced at the end of April.
Authorities said Glennon is one of four people who have now been convicted for their roles in Rath’s killing.
