Plans Unveiled for Marriott Hotel Near Downtown Auburn

A Rochester-based hotel developer is proposing an 89-room extended-stay Marriott hotel on Grant Avenue that could add a new lodging option to downtown Auburn, according to The Auburn Citizen.

At a meeting Wednesday of the Auburn Industrial Development Authority (AIDA), representatives from Indus Hospitality Group outlined plans for the project. The proposed property would be located at 132-134 Grant Ave., where a vacant home on the site would be demolished to make way for the new hotel.

The 89-suite property is expected to carry the TownePlace Suites by Marriott brand, a Marriott extended-stay concept with apartment-style rooms, though a final brand decision has not yet been announced. The suites would include amenities such as a refrigerator, stovetop and dishwasher, with larger units featuring full ovens. Guests would also have access to a gym, laundry facilities and an outdoor patio.

The developer has not yet submitted a formal application, but is expected to seek incentives including a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) agreement, a sales and use tax abatement and a mortgage recording tax exemption.

AIDA noted that adding an extended-stay hotel could attract new visitors or encourage longer stays to Auburn, boosting hotel occupancy, sales and overall visitor spending. The city’s hotel inventory currently includes properties such as the Hilton Garden Inn and Holiday Inn near downtown.

The Auburn Planning Board will likely review the developer’s plans as the proposal advances toward formal application and local approvals.
