Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) announced on Wednesday that Wayne County Sheriff Rob Milby will join her as her guest at the upcoming State of the Union address.
Sheriff Milby, a lifelong resident of Palmyra, has dedicated over three decades to public service in law enforcement. He began his career in 1995 with part-time positions at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Lyons Police Department before joining the Sheriff’s Office full-time. Over 29 years as a sworn member, including 26 years in supervisory roles, Milby has provided experienced leadership and oversight in public safety.
A graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, Milby has advanced training in law enforcement leadership, legal operations, command-level management, and personnel administration. He is a founding member of the Wayne County Opioid Task Force and the Wayne County Child Advocacy Center Advisory Board, and currently serves as 2nd Vice President of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association, where he chairs the new New York State Border Security Committee. Throughout his career, Milby has emphasized modernization, interagency collaboration, and professionalism in law enforcement.
“I am honored that my guest for the State of the Union is Sheriff Robert Milby of Wayne County,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “Sheriff Milby represents the very best of Upstate New York: integrity, professionalism, and three decades of dedicated service protecting our families. His leadership in combating the opioid crisis and protecting vulnerable children embodies what real public safety leadership looks like. His presence at the State of the Union represents my solidarity with law enforcement and the men and women who keep our communities safe.”
Sheriff Milby added, “Justice is strongest when every level of government stands shoulder to shoulder — protecting our citizens together and ensuring that accountability and responsibility are never optional.”
The 2026 State of the Union Address is set to be given by President Donald Trump on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. in the chamber of the United States House of Representatives to the 119th United States Congress.
In 2023, Tenney’s guest for the State of the Union was retired Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike.
