A quick-thinking deputy is being credited with helping save a driver’s life following a serious crash in Seneca County.
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded around 4 p.m. on February 11 to a personal injury accident along New York State Route 96. Investigators say the driver from Webster was traveling north when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole.
When deputies arrived, they found the driver suffering from a serious lower leg injury. Acting quickly, a deputy applied a tourniquet to control heavy bleeding before EMS crews arrived.
North Seneca Ambulance responded to the scene and transported the driver for further treatment. A paramedic later noted that the deputy’s immediate actions and proper use of the tourniquet likely saved the man’s life. The name of the deputy has not been released.
What caused the accident was not disclosed.
The Fayette Fire Department assisted with traffic control and vehicle removal, and New York State Electric & Gas responded to repair the damaged utility pole.
