Yates County Awards Another Round of Resource Grants

SHARE NOW

Yates County is continuing its investment in community quality of life with the announcement of its Round 9 Natural and Recreational Resource Grant awards.

Funded through occupancy tax revenue generated by short-term rentals across the county, the grant program ensures that tourism dollars are reinvested directly into the communities that support the local visitor economy. The initiative reflects the County’s long-term commitment to strengthening recreational infrastructure, expanding accessibility, and enhancing public spaces for both residents and visitors.

Round 9 awards will support projects designed to improve outdoor access, increase safety, and preserve the natural and recreational assets that make Yates County a desirable place to live, work, and visit.

Round 9 Grant Recipients

Town of Torrey – Town Park Accessibility Improvements
Award: $10,000

The Town of Torrey will enhance accessibility at one of its most heavily used parks by constructing a safe, stable pathway connecting the parking area to the Seneca Lake beachfront and kayak launch. Planned restroom upgrades will create additional space for changing or nursing, improving convenience for families and visitors of all abilities. The project builds on improvements funded through the 2022 Round 5 grant, continuing the Town’s efforts to make the park more welcoming and inclusive.

Village of Dundee – Millard Park ADA-Compliant Bathroom Revitalization
Award: $25,000

The Village of Dundee will undertake a comprehensive renovation of restroom facilities at Millard Park to ensure full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The project is a key step toward making public spaces more accessible and inclusive. The Village has previously demonstrated its commitment to park improvements through a $1 million New York State Municipal Park grant and additional funding received in the 2025 Round 8 grant cycle.

Town of Middlesex – Vine Valley Beach Project
Award: $8,000

The Vine Valley Beach Project continues phased improvements to the beachfront area, following successful enhancements funded through the 2023 Round 6 grant. The additional investment underscores Yates County’s commitment to long-term upgrades that strengthen community assets and expand public access to the lakes.

Village of Penn Yan – Elm Street Trailhead Project
Award: $21,200

The Village of Penn Yan will establish a formal trailhead for the Outlet Trail, a growing regional recreational destination. By creating a clearly defined access point, the project will elevate the trail’s visibility, encourage greater use, and reinforce Penn Yan’s role as a hub for outdoor recreation in Yates County.

The Natural and Recreational Resource Grant program remains a cornerstone of Yates County’s broader strategy to invest in resilient, accessible, and community-centered infrastructure. By prioritizing projects that deliver long-term benefits, the County continues to transform tourism revenue into meaningful local improvements — strengthening municipalities, expanding recreational opportunities, and enhancing quality of life across the region.
