A Rochester man is facing felony charges after deputies say he stole thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise from a Victor store.
According to authorities, 47-year-old Sylvester Carter was taken into custody on Friday following a shoplifting complaint at Von Maur in the Town of Victor.
Investigators allege Carter selected merchandise and passed all points of sale without paying on two separate dates between February 3 and February 6, totaling nearly $4,000 in stolen goods.
Deputies say Carter had previously been banned from all Wilmorite Properties. Because of the ban and the value of the merchandise, he was charged with third-degree grand larceny and third-degree burglary.
Carter was transported to the Ontario County Jail to await centralized arraignment and is scheduled to appear in Victor Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
