Flags at all New York State government buildings were flown at half-staff over the weekend in honor of Correction Officer Charlie Hall, who died on January 21st from a medical emergency while on duty at Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus.
According to the New York State Department of Corrections, Charlie’s co-workers immediately rendered life-saving measures, doing everything possible in those critical moments. Despite their efforts, Charlie passed away. His loss has been described as sudden and deeply felt across the entire corrections family.
Colleagues remember Charlie Hall as “one of the best” and “one of the good ones.” He was dedicated to his profession, fiercely loyal to co-workers and friends, and carried himself in a way that earned respect without ever asking for it. His commitment and character left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Governor Kathy Hochul said, “I am deeply grateful to Correction Officer Charlie Hall for his service and selfless dedication to maintain the security of New York’s correctional facilities and protecting others from harm. Today I join Officer Hall’s loved ones and fellow correction officers in honoring his life and commitment to service.”
Officer Hall, an active member of the Crisis Intervention Unit at Five Points, is survived by his wife, Jennifer Hall, and their two children, Lauren and Andrew.
