    Portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania.

    IMPACTS
    The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    The coldest wind chills are expected over the exposed, higher elevations overnight into Sunday morning. Northwest winds will be gusting between 25 to 40 mph at times overnight. Isolated power outages are possible. Wind gusts gradually diminish on Sunday, falling below 25 mph for most locations.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Cayuga County Sheriff Issues NYSEG Scam Alert

Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck is warning residents about scammers impersonating NYSEG (New York State Electric & Gas) representatives. These callers or messages may threaten immediate power shutoff unless payment is made right away.

Warning Signs of a Scam:

  • Demands for immediate payment
  • Requests for gift cards, prepaid cards, Venmo, CashApp, or other unusual payment methods
  • Threats of immediate service shutoff
  • Caller ID appears to be from NYSEG
  • High-pressure or aggressive tactics

How to Protect Yourself:

  • Hang up and contact NYSEG directly using the phone number on your bill
  • Do not provide personal or financial information to unsolicited callers
  • Report suspected scams to NYSEG and local law enforcement

Sheriff Schenck urges the community to share this alert, especially to help protect seniors and other vulnerable residents.
