An early morning fire destroyed the Village of Hammondsport’s Department of Public Works building on State Route 54.
Fire crews were called to the structure fire during the early morning hours and found the DPW facility heavily involved in flames. The building was ultimately destroyed along with the contents stored within.
Mutual aid was provided by departments from Wayne, Pulteney, Bath, Prattsburgh, and the Town of Urbana, along with help from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police. There’s no word yet on what caused the fire.
Officials have not reported any injuries. The investigation remains ongoing.
