A Geneva man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he broke into a former girlfriend’s home and stole her car early Sunday morning.

According to the City of Geneva Police Department, officers responded around 2 a.m. to a residence on North Main Street for a reported domestic incident. While investigating, officers learned that 34-year-old Kyle Shorter, a convicted felon, had allegedly gone to the home, kicked in the front door, and stolen car keys and a cell phone.

Police say Shorter then drove off in the victim’s vehicle and returned to his residence in the Town of Geneva. Officers later located both Shorter and the stolen car at that location.

Shorter was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony; fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony; and petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He was processed at the Geneva Police Department and then transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.

Authorities say Shorter is currently on felony probation for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Geneva Police Department at 315-828-6771. Tips can remain anonymous.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
