The Hobart and William Smith cross country teams were among the nation’s top academic performers in 2025. Both the Statesmen and Herons received the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team Awards, announced yesterday.

To earn All-Academic distinction, teams must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other criteria.

William Smith recorded a 3.78 team cumulative GPA through the fall semester, tied for 22nd highest among more than 200 teams recognized nationwide. The Herons have achieved USTFCCCA All-Academic Team status 33 years in a row, marking every season in the program’s history. Individually, 14 William Smith runners were named to the Liberty League All-Academic Team.

On the course, William Smith captured victories at the Bridgeman Invitational and the Cross Country Only Conference Championship. The Herons finished seventh in the Liberty League Championship and 17th in the NCAA Niagara Regional Championship.

Hobart posted a 3.25 team cumulative GPA, marking the seventh time the Statesmen have earned the USTFCCCA award. Six Hobart runners received Liberty League All-Academic honors.

Racing highlights for Hobart included wins at the Bridgeman Invitational and Wildcat Classic, a second-place finish in the CCOC Championship, eighth in the Liberty League Championship, and 17th at the NCAA regionals
