SHARE NOW

State Police are investigating a major multi-vehicle crash on the New York State Thruway in Genesee County.

Troopers say the crash happened between Exits 48 and 48A in Batavia and involved an estimated 25 to 30 vehicles, including both passenger cars and commercial trucks. Firefighters and EMS crews responded to the scene to assist those involved.

Authorities report several people suffered injuries, but none are believed to be life-threatening at this time.

All westbound lanes of the Thruway were shut down following the crash, with traffic diverted off at Exit 48. Eastbound traffic was also being diverted off the Thruway at Exit 48A, but has since reopened.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the response and investigation continued.
