As temperatures remain frigid, the City of Auburn is offering tips to prevent frozen water pipes.
The city said temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for the next two weeks, increasing the likelihood of frozen lines.
To prevent frozen pipes, the city encourages the following:
- Turn on a small, continuous flow of water, especially if lines have frozen before. Pencil-sized flow is recommended.
- Keep indoor plumbing warm and cabinet doors open.
- Insulate exposed pipes and service lines.
- Seal air leaks near foundations and pipe entry points.
- Maintain heat in unoccupied buildings.
The city added that, for the first time since 2022, the Department of Municipal Utilities had to thaw a frozen water line.
