A Romulus family is asking for community support after losing their home in an early morning fire.
According to family members, Aaron Griffin and his 11-year-old son were forced to flee their Route 414 farmhouse around 2 a.m. on Tuesday after an electrical fire broke out. The home was deemed a total loss, leaving the pair with only the clothes they were wearing when they escaped.
Both Aaron and Evan were able to get out safely without injuries, and their Blue Heeler, Tilly, was also rescued. However, the family’s Great Pyrenees, Layla, remains missing. Relatives believe the dog may have run off during the fire and could be in the surrounding area, possibly near a neighboring Amish farm. Residents in the area are asked to keep an eye out and report any sightings.
Family members have organized a fundraising effort to help Aaron and Evan replace their belongings and begin rebuilding. Donations will also be coordinated through the thrift shop at the Ovid Federated Church.
Those wishing to help or who may have information about Layla are encouraged to reach out through the local fundraising effort.
