A Cayuga County man was charged with driving while intoxicated after an early‑morning crash on Saturday that left multiple people injured.

New York State Police Public Information Officer Lynnea Crane told The Citizen the accident occurred at about 2:15 a.m. on Rockefeller Road in the town of Moravia. Troopers responding to the scene found a 2014 GMC pickup truck that had left the roadway and come to a stop in a ditch. Several people were discovered in the surrounding area of the vehicle and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

One person sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized, authorities said.

Troopers identified the driver as 20-year-old Robert Iszard‑Michael of Aurora, who showed signs of intoxication at the scene. Crane said he refused field sobriety and initial chemical tests, but later submitted to a breath test that registered above the legal limit of 0.08%.

Iszard‑Michael was charged with the misdemeanor of DWI, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or greater, and operating a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol while younger than 21. He also faces an infraction for unsafe lane movement and was arraigned at the Cayuga County Jail.

State police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
