Auburn Police report that a city man was arrested following an apparent domestic incident at a local residence.
Officers were dispatched to 47 Perrine Street at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Friday, after Cayuga County dispatch received an open 911 call in which a male and female could be heard yelling in the background. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a victim who had a full stay-away order of protection against the suspect, identified as 42-year-old John Gruver. Officers interviewed a witness and learned of a domestic altercation between Gruver and the victim. Gruver was subsequently arrested for violating the stay-away order.
Gruver, who is currently on parole for a previous criminal contempt conviction, was processed at Auburn Police Headquarters on a charge of Aggravated Criminal Contempt, a class D felony. He was sent to the Cayuga County Jail.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
