A Stanley woman was arrested Saturday afternoon following a reported domestic dispute in the Town of Gorham, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say 43-year-old Amanda McQuay was taken into custody after responding to a disturbance at her residence.  Following an investigation, authorities allege that McQuay became involved in a physical altercation with another member of the household. During the incident, she is accused of attempting to stab the individual with a pair of scissors, biting them on the hand, and destroying the victim’s cell phone with a hammer. Officials say the incident occurred in the presence of children.

McQuay was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony; attempted assault in the second degree, a class E felony; criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor; menacing in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

She was transported to the Ontario County Jail, where she is being held pending arraignment. McQuay is expected to appear in Gorham Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
