Bath police arrested a man Saturday night after a reported theft near Rico’s Pizza on West Morris Street. Officers arrived to find the suspect gone but soon located 21-year-old Jason Pierce walking on West Washington Street.
When officers tried to stop Pierce, the Washington D.C. man refused to comply and threatened them with a hammer. Backup arrived quickly, and Pierce was taken into custody without incident.
Police later learned Pierce had unlawfully entered a nearby home earlier that day—and had been arrested for the same offense the day before. He now faces multiple charges including menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon.
Pierce was taken to Steuben County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
