A Seneca Falls man is facing several felony and misdemeanor charges following a burglary investigation in Seneca County.
Sheriff Timothy Thompson says investigators arrested 45-year-old Ted O’Connor last Monday after an incident in the Town of Ovid. Deputies say O’Connor is accused of breaking into a building and trying to steal copper piping.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, investigators later searched a vehicle O’Connor had been riding in and found tools commonly used to break into buildings, along with suspected methamphetamine. An arrest warrant was issued, and when deputies went to O’Connor’s home in Seneca Falls, they say he barricaded himself inside. After a standoff, O’Connor eventually surrendered and was taken into custody without injury.
O’Connor was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest.
He was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Part Court and was held because of several prior felony convictions.
The investigation was assisted by members of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Road Patrol and the Seneca Falls Police Department.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
