Waterloo Standoff Suspect Sentenced to State Prison

SHARE NOW

A Waterloo man who opened fire on police during a standoff last spring has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison.

46-year-old Randy Davis was sentenced Wednesday in Seneca County Court after pleading guilty to three counts of second-degree attempted murder. Judge Barry Porsch ordered three concurrent 20-year prison terms, plus five years of post-release supervision.

State Police say the incident began around 2:30 a.m. on April 1st, when Davis allegedly broke into his uncle’s home, assaulted 69-year-old Steven Linden, and stole several weapons. Investigators say Davis then fired weapons from three different homes in the mobile home park, including his own, and refused to surrender as officers responded. Negotiations continued through the early morning, but Davis escalated the situation by firing at propane tanks, forcing law enforcement to use tear gas to bring him into custody.

Linden was treated for his injuries at Geneva General Hospital and released shortly afterward. No officers were hurt during the standoff.
