A Van Etten man has been sentenced to state prison following a felony drug conviction in Schuyler County Court.
The Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office announced that 50-year-old Robert Durfey pleaded guilty on October 16 to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, a Class C felony. On Thursday, Durfey was sentenced as a second felony offender to two and a half years in state prison, followed by two years of post-release supervision. Schuyler County Court Judge Matthew C. Hayden imposed the sentence.
The charges stem from a traffic stop conducted by New York State Police on March 18, 2025. Troopers stopped Durfey for driving without a license. During the stop, police observed a torn plastic bag protruding from his pocket and a substance believed to be methamphetamine on his lap, fingers, center console, and the floorboard of the vehicle.
Investigators said Durfey attempted to destroy the suspected methamphetamine before it could be seized. Despite those efforts, troopers recovered nearly one ounce of the drug and placed him under arrest.
Schuyler County District Attorney Jeremy Hourihan prosecuted the case.
