Betsy McCaughey, a former New York lieutenant governor, is jumping into the race for Connecticut governor.

McCaughey filed paperwork Thursday to seek the Republican nomination and take on Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont, who is running for a third term. She announced her run Wednesday night.

A conservative commentator, McCaughey is a host on Newsmax and writes a column for the New York Post. She’s no stranger to politics, having served as New York’s lieutenant governor and later mounting an unsuccessful 1998 run against then-Gov. George Pataki after switching parties.

McCaughey said she decided to run after friends and social media followers encouraged her to enter the race.
