Wayne County Community Schools will lose $6 million in federal funding over the next two years after the U.S. Department of Education notified the district last month that its Full-Service Community Schools (FSCS) grant would not continue.
The funding supports more than 18 schools and community partners, providing critical services to students and families across Wayne County. The grant cut is part of a nationwide decision that affected 19 FSCS programs, all of which were denied appeals. So far, only one program in Idaho has had its funding restored following intervention by congressional representatives.
Officials with Wayne County Community Schools said the funding decision was not related to performance, noting that the district has met or exceeded all grant requirements and is recognized nationally as a strong example of the Community Schools model.
District leaders are reviewing the impact of the funding loss and exploring options to continue supporting students and families.
