Inmate Pleads Guilty to Murdering Roommate at Five Points Facility

An inmate at Five Points Correctional Facility in Seneca County pleaded guilty to two counts of first‑degree murder and was sentenced Wednesday to an additional 25 years to life in prison for killing his cellmate in late 2024.

Kevin Farley, 43, of Canastota admitted strangling 42‑year‑old Adam Lafferty during the night of Dec. 22–23, 2024, according to the Seneca County District Attorney’s Office. Prosecutors said Farley used homemade shackles and a metal device to fatally strangle Lafferty, who was later found dead in his bed.

The sentence was handed down by Seneca County Court Judge Barry Porsche. Farley was already serving a sentence of 24 years to life for a 2015 murder conviction in Madison County. His new sentence will run consecutively, meaning he faces at least 49 years to life behind bars.

“Today Adam Lafferty’s family was able to experience a modicum of justice, watching the man who brutally murdered their family member over a year ago admit his guilt and be sentenced,” Seneca County District Attorney John Nabinger said in a statement. He urged the New York State Parole Board to never release Farley back into the community, citing the violent nature of the crime.

Lafferty was serving time at Five Points when he was killed. The case drew attention to violence within the facility, which has experienced a rise in assaults in recent years.

Farley’s prior conviction stems from the killing of Tiffany Meeks in 2015, in which prosecutors said he strangled her with a cord after an attempted rape.
