Stefanik Secures $10 Million for Lake Champlain Conservation and Education

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) announced she has secured $10 million in funding for the Great Lakes Fishery Commission to protect Lake Champlain and support the development of an educational and outreach center in the North Country.

The funding will support efforts to combat invasive species that threaten the lake’s wildlife habitats and help preserve the watershed’s biodiversity, Stefanik said. It will also fund a space for residents and visitors to learn about and participate in restoration efforts.

“I am committed to preserving NY21’s cherished environments, protecting our natural resources, and combating harmful invasive species,” Stefanik said. “This $10 million will benefit efforts against invasive species, uphold the watershed’s biodiversity, and strengthen our local economy.”

Stefanik has long advocated for Lake Champlain, previously urging the Lake Champlain Basin Program and the commission to establish a center on the New York side of the lake.
