A traffic stop Sunday night led to the arrest of a Palmyra area man on multiple vehicle and alcohol-related charges.
Police say they received several complaints that Jeffrey Vanderwege was driving despite having a suspended license. Officers located his vehicle at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and made contact with him.
During the investigation, police confirmed Vanderwege’s driver’s license had been revoked and observed signs of alcohol impairment. He admitted he had been drinking at a local bar before getting behind the wheel.
Vanderwege refused to submit to a breath test and was taken into custody. He was charged with unlicensed operation, two counts of aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, felony driving while intoxicated, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
He was transported to the Palmyra Police Department for processing and later taken to the Wayne County Jail pending CAP arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
