A Penn Yan man was arrested early Saturday following a domestic disturbance investigation that police say involved unlawfully entering an apartment while a child was present.
23-year-old Jedediah Collette, of Penn Yan, was taken into custody Jan. 10 after officers responded to a reported domestic incident. Investigators allege Collette entered another resident’s apartment through a window in the middle of the night after being told by the occupant to stay away.
Authorities said the victim and a child under the age of 17 were inside the apartment at the time.
Police located Collette in the area and said he admitted to entering the apartment through the window.
Collette was charged with second-degree criminal trespass and endangering the welfare of a child. He was transported to the Yates County Jail and held pending arraignment in Centralized Arraignment Part court, where orders of protection were expected to be addressed.
No injuries were reported.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
