U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has announced her nominations of four Central New York students to the nation’s service academies: the United States Military Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, and the United States Naval Academy.

“It is my distinct honor to nominate some of the best and brightest individuals from Central New York to the nation’s service academies,” Gillibrand said. “These young leaders have demonstrated exemplary academic achievement and dedication to their communities and nation. I look forward to seeing all that they achieve, and I thank them for their commitment to our country.”

A selection committee formed by Senator Gillibrand reviewed applications and selected nominees based on academic record, leadership potential, and overall achievement. Final acceptance is determined by the service academies.

The U.S. service academies provide a first-class education and the opportunity to serve as commissioned officers in the U.S. armed forces upon graduation.

This year’s nominees from Central New York are:

  • Charlotte Prior, of Cazenovia in Madison County, nominated to the United States Military Academy.
  • Alice Zhu, of Manlius in Onondaga County, nominated to the United States Military Academy.
  • Elijah Pomales, of Rome in Oneida County, nominated to the United States Air Force Academy.
  • Andrew Shaver, of Oswego in Oswego County, nominated to the United States Naval Academy.
