A West Bloomfield man has been arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge following a hit-and-run crash in the Town of Victor.
Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies say 45-year-old John Sawyer was taken into custody on Saturday after an investigation into a reported hit-and-run at the intersection of State Route 444 and County Road 41.
Deputies say Sawyer was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol when he struck another vehicle, causing property damage, and then fled the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
Following the crash, investigators located Sawyer at his residence. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated and issued multiple uniform traffic tickets for additional violations.
Sawyer was transported to the Ontario County Jail for pre-arraignment detention. He is scheduled to appear in Victor Town Court at a later date to answer to the charges.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
